In order to ensure a safe and pleasant environment for everyone in the gym we ask that these rules and guidelines please be observed: • NO ONE other than staff, students and Mom, Pop, and Tot class parents (during their class time) are allowed in the main gymnastics area. Students must remain off the floor until they are called out for their class. Parents of Tumble Tot students may come out with the child the first week or two if necessary. If the child is then still not comfortable without the parent, the child should move to an available Mom, Pop, and Tot class. • Students are only allowed in the gymnastics area during their class time or open gym times. Students either awaiting class or pick up should remain in the seating area or playroom. These are also the appropriate areas for parents and/or siblings who wish to remain during class time. • Please arrive for class on-time, and with appropriate attire. We are open 15 minutes before any scheduled class times. Tardiness is disruptive to the class. If your child is going to be significantly late, it is best to miss class and call to have a make-up scheduled. If appropriate attire is accidentally left at home, we do our best to help with “spare” leotards from the office, but if one is not available, your child may not be able to participate. Appropriate Attire Appropriate attire for gymnastics participation is essential for safety, and mobility. Appropriate attire can vary according to the level of gymnastics. While leotards are ideal for gymnastics at any level (especially for performance): Mini-Stars: Mom Pop and Tot, Tumble Tot I & II, and Kindergym are safe in a properly sized, tucked-in t-shirt and shorts or warm-up pants. Please no buttons, snaps or zippered clothing. Beginner I Students: are also safe in a properly sized, tucked-in t-shirt and shorts or warm-up pants. Please no buttons, snaps or zippered clothing. Beginner II students and above: must wear a leotard, unitard or (one piece bathing suit). Snug fitting elastic/spandex shorts may also be worn on top of the leotard.. All students must be barefoot or in gymnastic shoes at all times during class for safety. Socks are slippery on most of our equipment. (The pit will eat them up anyhow!) Shoes should be left under the benches next to the water cooler. All students must be free of any jewelry; and long hair should be pulled away from the face with a soft hair band. Never allow your child to have gum in the gym. (We may not catch it, and choking is a real hazard). Make-up Classes & Snow Days In the case of snow, or other inclement weather, please call the gym or check the web site an hour and a half before your scheduled class time to check for possible delays or cancellations. Due the variable nature of weather, we cannot make our best decision until that time. Once we have decided to run classes or not, in addition to leaving a message on the answering machine and voice mail, we will also notify 104.7 WNCS, and WDEV Radio. Any cancelled class day will entitle your child to a make -up class. If your child misses a class due to illness or an important event, please call or e-mail the gym to schedule a make-up class. We do our best not to overfill any classes, so please do no show up unscheduled for a make-up class. We will schedule to have your child’s make-up class during a time where space is available. Moving to a New Level Our Mini-Star Classes are grouped by age and maturity, not ability. Mom, Pop, and Tot class is for ages 2-3 ½, though if the child is not ready socially, they may remain in Mom, Pop, and Tot a little longer. Tumble Tot I & II are for ages 3 ½ to Kindergarten age. Tumble Tot I is mainly for 3 ½ to 4 ½ years old. Tumble Tot II is mainly for 4 ½ to Kindergarten. Ability to listen in class, follow directions, and understand slightly more difficult concepts is also a large factor in who should be in each of these classes. Kindergym classes are almost exclusively for children in Kindergarten. Our School Age Classes are grouped by ability rather than age. In Beginner I class, students learn fundamental gymnastics skills on each of the apparatus. While no one can predict how long it will take a student to learn these to perform these skills adequately, on the average, a student can expect to spend a year at this level. In Beginner II class, students begin to learn more advanced gymnastics skills on each of the apparatus. On average, students can expect to spend a year to a year and a half at this level. In Intermediate class, students learn to become proficient at the skills they began in Beginner II, and start to learn some of the skills that they will acquire in the Advanced class. On average students can expect to spend two years at this level. Advanced class is our highest level of recreational gymnastics classes. At each level, the instructor will let the children know what skills they need to achieve to move up. When they are ready to move up, the instructor will let the child and parent know this, and they may then sign up for the next level of class. Re-Signing Up for a New Session North Stars Gymnastics classes are run in 7 week sessions. There are 5 Sessions per school year. The dates of these sessions are in our brochure. Any changes to these dates will be posted on the door and bulletin board. At the end of each session (beginning week 5), there will be re-sign up forms available on the front desk. Please fill out a form whether you are continuing or not. This lets us know which classes will have space in them for new students. If you do not fill out a form, your child’s spot may be taken by a new student. If this happens, we will do our best to fit your child into another class with space available.
